:: January 8, 2002 - Lunch with Unc' the Hunk ::

Lunch is a little late today as I went out to eat with my uncle. Don't worry I brought my camera and took pictures. I wouldn't want to leave you feeling left in the lurch.

Denny's on Davie Street in Vancouver. Not exactly the healthiest place to eat, but tasty all the same.

Don Browne, Dad's brother aka Unc' the Hunk. He repairs old typewriters at Polsons' Office Products.

My lunch. Chicken Ranch melt. Wheeze! Cough. Heart attack.

Uncle Don's lunch. Reuben Sandwich and fries. Yum

Johnny Got His Gun by Dalton Trumbo. An anti-war novel published, ironically, just as the US was about to enter WW2. The song and video "One" by Metallica was based on this book and the movie made from it. It's the story of a man who awakens to find himself blind, deaf, mute and paralyzed after being injured in the trenches of WW1. Not exactly uplifting reading, but moving and riveting to say the least.

Dave Thomas the Founder of the Wendy's International Restaurant chain has passed away at age 69. Wendy's was a favourite lunch spot for me. We'll miss your dry sense of humour Dave. Thanks for the burgers! Dave was also adopted. Just like me!
