:: Feb 1, 2002 - Pre-Groundhog Lunch with Gwen & Ruth ::

Tomorrow is Groundhog Day. In the USA it's Punxsutawney Phil who comes out of his little hole in the ground looking for his shadow. If he sees it, he regards it as an omen of six more weeks of bad weather and returns to his hole. If the day is cloudy and shadowless, he takes it as a sign of spring and stays above ground. Here in Canada we have Wiarton Willie to do our predictions. I'm pulling for an early spring. Come on boys!

Big night out for Carol and I. We're going to go watch the hideously self-indulgent spectacle of Platinum Blonde and A Flock of Seagulls at the Commodore this evening. I can't believe these guys are still around 2 decades later. The 80's revisited tonight! They're all kind of pooky now too.

Don't forget, if you scan your lunch you can email it to lunch@mikebrowne.com and we'll do lunch!

The Elbow Room. This coffee shop is known for friendly "customer abuse." It's also a local favourite for breakfast, served all day. If you don't clean your plate you have to make a donation to a local charity. They were very mean to us (as is the custom). Lots of famous people have eaten here. Their signed pics are on the wall. Michael J Fox, John Travolta and Parker Stevenson to name a few.

Gwen Crook. Carol and I used to work with her at the North Shore Association for the Mentally Handicapped. Now she works at IAMCARES. Gwen is also and avid sailor. She sails snipe class boats all over the planet. She's the skipper! I wonder where Gilligan is?

Ruth. She and Gwen work together. Ruth is from England. She sounds very English. She did not have the Princess Diana burger although it was on the menu.

Ruth had a bowl of beef soup and a mushroom (fungus) burger. The very nasty waitress said, "I bet you don't get enough meat at home". Yikes! How rude! (IMPORTANT NOTE: wear your headphones if you're at work. There are extremely rude words on this page!!!)

Gwen ate a sandwich with hashbrowns, a pickle (like Pickles Oblong) and a beer. The waitress said, "Is your life that bad that you need to drink at lunch time?"

A Tom Selleck burger and a Diet Coke for me. Called that due to the pineapples I'm sure. You know Magnum PI... Hawaii... anyway. I was afraid to ask and find out for sure. It was an awesome lunch. I was asked if I was going to "go home and walk around in panties" for ordering a diet coke. The nerve!
